As a collective, we are all experiencing a pandemic that has created a lot of fear, anxiety, and stress. As more stores continue to temporarily shut down, isolation and social distancing have occurred, making our mental and physical health more important than ever. During this surreal time, we have a great opportunity to re-set, re-store and re-balance. While we cannot control all that is going on around us, we can control what we put into our bodies and how we react.
Supportive and nourishing ways to enhance and strengthen your immunity…
Our gut houses 70% of our immune system. Foods that nourish your gut and reduce inflammation are ginger, turmeric, dandelion greens, asparagus, mushrooms, and raw honey.
Best to avoid dairy (milk and cheese), processed foods, fried foods, sugar, pastries, breads and pastas. These are hard on your digestion and can weaken your system, making you more susceptible to viruses.
Alleviate stress, support and enhance your immunity, and stabilize and elevate your mood by consuming vitamin-rich food, such as:
Dark leafy greens (spinach, kale, swiss chard) whole grains (Quinoa, black-rice, lentils buckwheat groats, oatmeal, barley) contain vitamin B6 and magnesium.
Kiwis, broccoli, red pepper, strawberries contain vitamin C.
Pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, hemp contain zinc.
Walnuts, flaxseeds, and salmon contain omega 3’s and 6’s.
Fortunately, grocery stores are still open providing us fresh produce. Make better use of your time now to cook and prepare fresh meals, and have fun discovering new recipes!
We may have limitations with physical connection, yet thanks to technology, we have multiple options for face time with our community. Socializing is not limited. Catch up with family and friends through phone or skype. Join virtual classes with zoom. Some businesses, such as yoga classes, are available online for people to stay connected.
It’s safe enough to venture out into parks and the woods while keeping a distance from others. Walking outside, getting fresh air and allowing the sun to shine on you greatly enhances your immunity and lifts your spirits.
Meditation can be in many forms. An active meditation known as humming is great for relaxation and clearing of the mind. The vibration throughout your body revitalizes your cells and creates harmony within the body. Simple meditations of gratitude will bring forth more peace and happiness.
What a time to get creative! Read those books you have been meaning to read or movies you have wanted to be watched. Listen to music and dance. Paint. Craft. Learn something new. Laugh. Any activity that expands and opens the heart and allows feelings of joy and fun to come through are powerful tools for strong and resilient immunity.
Most of all keep safe, healthy and strong!
